I know this has been covered before but I'm having no luck with search. I'm planning on spending a week at Vermilion this year with my wife. This will be my first time boating this lake. I'm looking for nice accomodations, natural surroundings and good water access including boat launch, dock or mooring and swimming beach. Obviously fishing is a main concern as well. Any resort suggestions would be greatly apprciated and used to make reservations. Thank you.

Here is a link to the resorts on the lake: lakevermilionresorts.com
We have a place on the lake, but we stop in at a few of the resorts for happy hour now and then.

I absolutely recommend the White Eagle resort on Head O' Lake bay. I've used most of the resorts on the lake over the years, and this one is hands-down the best choice.

There's a good boat launch right at the resort, dock space with electric power at each cabin, swimming beach with water toys like 'Rave' platform, kayaks, etc. Cabins are great -- several are new construction in the past couple years, and all of them are modern, most with dishwashers, etc. Setting is in tall pines/birches on a quiet bay, with numerous (dozens and dozens) great walleye/smallie/musky/northern/panfish spots within in 2-to-20 minutes of your dock.

There are many fine resorts on Vermilion including White Eagle. My wife and I like Pehrson Lodge. There is a launch, natural harbor, and very large sand beach. Cabins are spaced well and all have a view of the lake or are on the lake. Eric and Mary Hansen are great hosts. I will be there opening weekend and either the second or third week of September. Thier web site is: www.pehrsonlodge.com
Good luck, Steve

I like Life of Riley, set off all by itself, unlike some of the others mentioned that are on the main drag. Great crew there ,Full service and very secluded up at the east end of Norwegian Bay on the Cook side of the lake. Lots of people from other resorts come up that way to fish. Owners Rock and Lee very nice. I Couldnt get there this year myself. Tell 'em Mark and Tom from Chicago say hi ! Float plane visits on Thursdays to take people for plane rides around the lake. Its cheap and worth it,make sure you do that too when you 're there regardless of which resort you stay.I'm pretty sure they visit most of them sometime during the week. http://www.lifeofrileyresort.com/htmls/directory.html

If you want a classy place where you and your wife will be treated like royalty, Ludlow's Island is the place for you. They have boat slips with a roof over them and electricity on the dock. They have beautiful cabins with a fireplace. They have a beach and they'll deliver fresh-from-the-oven Croissants to your door on Sunday morning along with a newspaper. They are spendy but your wife will appreciate how classy this place is. Plus, they are within striking distance of the best walleye, smallmouth and muskie fishing. I'm speaking from experience.

My buddies and I go to Muskego Point resort for opener every year. It is a very nice place directly across wake-em-up narrows from Ludlows. It is not as pricey as Ludlows but a bit more rustic. It is on the no road side of the lake so your car remains on the across the narrows.

Have been to Life of Riley for many walleye openers, and have to agree with an earlier post that this resort is top shelf. Rock and Lee Gilson make you feel very welcome and at home. Feel free to e-mail me for more specifics lippens@csinet.net

FYI-I received the following information from the owners of White Eagle Resort. I'm sure this is a great atmoshere for some but not for me.
"Our world appears to us as being devoid of reference to anything
scriptural. We would like to be a light that would point the way to
what TRUTH is. We believe the only TRUTH is the Word of God. At
many points in our lives, our witness to this TRUTH has not been
good, but we still believe that TRUTH must be spoken and written for
people to see. Our reason for living is to point people to truth.
That is all we are trying to do by referencing scripture. We welcome
all people to our resort and we do not expect certain behavior. We
do not condone the drinking of alcohol or encourage it. We do
designate 'no smoking' cabins.
Thank you,
Schnauzer
