Hi guys,

Looking at this boat used and was wondering if anyone has experience with
this combination? Max HP runs around 140hp for the 1700 and was
concerned whether a 90hp would be too underpowered for this hull.

I'm not a speed daemon, mostly fishing and running around the lake.

Thanks,

If you are not into speed, you might be ok. My dad runs an 18 mr. pike with a 90. Of course it is a V4 90 that runs pretty hot. I would worry more about resale than anything. Hard to sell something that is underpowered, but dealers rig boats like that quite often. Your choice. If it were me, I would try to at least go with a 115???

Here's a similair one, w/a 90 4S Merc on it. Maybe contact the guy and ask how it performs with the 90 on it.

I have a Crestliner Sportfish 1750 which is the same hull as the Serenity only with cosmetic type differences and a 140hp four stroke. Top speed lightly loaded is about 45mph. I would guess that with a 90 top speed would be in the low 30's. The issues that you will face is that you will need to run a 90 at or near WOT when cruising. That hull has 17 degreed deadrise, so holeshot takes a lot of power for the boat that size. Holeshot will be marginal I guess, and may be a problem if you want to do water sports. For fishing I think it would be adequate.

I have a 1700 mirage which is the same boat only a different year with a 90 hp honda. With a 13.5 x 15p prop top speed is 32.5 mph on gps with 3 guys full tank of fuel and gear. The hole shot is good and I can pull a 200 pound slalom skier up. I have a 13.25 x 17p ss prop and with a light load I can get 37 mph but unless just going for a cruise with one other person it is pretty useless. The boat is under powered but for what I use it for it works fine.

If the price is excellent...not good but excellent...it's probably worth considering. The types of water it will be used on is important too. However, you may want to compare that to a 16 foot rig with a 90 HP that will most likely cost less and be powered more appropriately. To me, underpowering has more to do with fuel consumption than top speed performance. A properly powered rig can cruise nicely at 3000 RPM where underpowered my require 4000 RPM or more to achieve the same. Once you've owned both types of rigs, you'll never underpower a boat again.

Ya, think I'm gonna pass. The price is just alright, nothing stellar but it's in
top shape for a 2005.

I have the same boat (2005 17' Serenity) but it is maxed out with a 140 4S Johnson. Top speed is around 45mph. Would I be happy with this boat and a 90 on the back, no way.

Came across two other units that look interesting.

2003 SuperHawk 1800 Suzuki 140 (low hrs.) (17K asking)
or
2005 SuperHawk 1800 F150 (low hrs) (19K asking)

Read a few threads on SH with 140+ 4strokes and porposing issues? Anyone
have any experience with either the above and porposing?

Wonder where the fuel tank is on either of these? At the back?

Thanks,
