ok heres the deal. i have absolutely no muskie expirience never caught one before. I was fishing on a dock on the mississippi river when someone yelled come look at this huge carp. i walked down there and had my fishing glasses on so i could see through the water pretty good and it was no carp! it was a giant muskie. my dad had a 23 pound northern on our wall at home and it put that thing to shame. i ran up to my car and grabbed my northern fishin pole with 80 pound power pro line :) and when i got down there one of those idiots tried dropping a huge sinker and worm by it and it took off. i was shaking i was so worked up. then i saw it about 20 minutes later and staring into the water. it creeped up right in the shallows by the dock and just sat there and then kind of looked interested in my stringer with some fish on it but then swam away slowly i tossed a few lures out and tried to get its attention. i have a bunch of muskie and northern pike lures. but he didnt pay any attention to my lure. then i talked to someone that is down there frequently launching their boat and they said they have been seeing two big old muskies hanging around there all week. they said they looked like hogs but ignore everything. these are some big old river muskies and im bound and determined to catch one. so what do i do? live bait? are they mating and just ignoring my stuff? help!!! please!!!! email me at mxman237@hotmail.com please thank you

it could possibly be a northern pike but that would be one heck of a pike. i have a 2 or 3 foot muskie leader, should i use that? or just a regular one? do i need a net man or can i crank him in onto shore with the 80lbs test?

The first thing you need to do is find out if they muskie season is open where you're fishing.

Muskie season opens later I went down there with the camera and got some awesome pictures! Saw him about 20 times it is too hard to tell if its a muskie or a northern.

Do yourself a favor. If you do catch a "whopper" like that, take a picture and release him. Just think what kind of future musky may develop. Then get a replica made for the wall. In your heart you will know you did the right thing. Just think how big that fish may be when your son fishes for it.
