Anyone using a LMS 334c igps that can help me with mine that is on a boat I just purchased? A manual was not available and I'm totally confused. I tried it out yesterday and it seems to be working the way it is supposed to for sonar but is there a built in gps that will mark waypoints and show you where you are? Does it track your position? A Navionics map of a lake in Indiana was in it which I have no use for.
Also, there is a standard transducer that is mounted but there is also a white plastic gadget mounted next to the transducer. What would this be for - temperature?
I'm going to look for a manual I can read and maybe download but I hope someone can enlighten me in the meantime.

You'll find this in the manual but if you use the Pages button that will give you options to get to the GPS screens

I have the Lowrance 339 igps df, It is the best piece of equipment I've purchased for my boat. I use it all summer and in the winter for ice fishing. Although it has the smaller screen it has all the features of the bigger more expensive units. The 334 and 339 are basically the same unit. If I understand you correctly you cannot see the gps screen? You might need to do a soft reset on the unit.
With the power off hold in the pages key and then turn the power on. It will reset the unit.
I've had this happen to me a couple times.
The gps has all the features you would expect and or want. You can also download the unit to your computer can run it in a simulator mode to get accustom to the features so you don't lose valuable time on the water.
It's also great for the days when you just can't handle one more "TPS Report" (office space) at work!
As far as the white plastic gadget I'm confused....Is it the paddle wheel for speed? Normally they are black.
enjoy the unit

I appreciate all the info. I now have the manual on my computer and understand a little more. I'll also try the rest of your suggestions but really don't know if I was operating the unit correctly. I was trying out my boat for the first time and was dealing with so many things I probably didn't give enough time to any one thing. I was also breaking in a new 9.9 kicker.
The white plastic gismo looks like a elongated triangle with the pointed end down at the water line. No wheel or anything attached to it. Clear plastic tubing is attached to it which runs up through the harness. I can't tell where it ends up. I can't see any wires inside the tubing either.
I'm trying to find what I would need to download updates from my computer. I sent a message to LEI and I am waiting for their responce. Lowrance was no help at all.

That's the pick-up for your speedometer. Once you figure out your gps, you can display all that information on your unit.
I love mine so much I've been looking on ebay and other sites to buy another one. I'm hoping people switch the the HDS units and look to sell their old units.
If you have any other questions let me know

as you start to figure it out, you may want to look to see if it has the most current update. The update for mine added color to the sonar side bar, added ice mode, depth on gps points and a few other good features. The updates are fairly easy to install but since it is a legacy product, Lowrance won't have any more updates than are out there right now.

Did your unit come with the cables to download updates? I just looked at what you called the pick-up for the speedometer. There is a small pin hole near the tip that looks like something could be attached, is the wheel missing on mine?

No, Mine didn't come with cables. If you have a MMC card reader, I have one in my laptop, you download the update, save it to the MMC and then load it into the unit. You can get the cards, card readers at walmart for cheap.
No, the paddle wheel would most likely attach to your sonar/gps. When you ran your boat did the speedometer work? If so I wouldn't worry about it. The tube on mine cracked and I haven't used it for years. I just use GPS for speed instead.
By the way what type of boat is it?

No, the speedometer wasn't working. Thanks for the info on the MMC cardreader, I'll pick up some today.
I just sold a Lund 1800 Fisherman with all the bells and whistles. I bought it new in 2002 and it just was too big and heavy for my wife and I to handle. We went to Quebec every year and also tried fishing Erie with it but the wife got scared off in 4 foot waves. Towing to Canada got expensive also especiall paying almost 6.00 canadian for gas.
I just bought a 2005 Alumacraft 165 Navigator Classic and took it out for the first time the other day. The Lund had a Yamaha 115 4 stroke and a Yamaha T-8. Very nice to ride in but a pain to take care of. The Alumacraft has a 50 hp Johnson 2 stroke and I just put on a 9.9 Johnson 4 stroke.
The Yamahas were so easy to start and run. The Johnson is a pain to get started and keep running until it gets warm. I do have to get used to the little quirks I guess.
Thanks again.
