Going to be trapping my own minnows on a fly-in trip.
Anyone out there have any secret recipes as to what to bait them with?

We have always had good luck baiting most kinds of minnows with a couple pieces of bread broken up in small pieces and maybe throw in a couple of broken up soda crackers for chum. Be sure to leave the trap in the water long enough, sometimes you will catch minnows right away and sometimes it will take them 1 or 2 days to find your trap. Good Luck

A friend of mine uses hard dog food to bait the minnows. Seems to work quite well.

LAST EDITED ON May-23-00 AT 01:17PM (CST)[p]Here is a subject that is near and dear to me. For YEARS I would take half a day to make doughball for carp fishing and baiting minnows. I used to HATE doing this because it would get all over my kitchen, dry out and I almost needed a chisel to get the stuff off. Enters my favorite brother-in-law (?) just kidding. Anyway, he told me that he has got the answer to my whoes: take the cereal WHEATIES, grab a good handful, crush them, stick your hand in the water, let enough water in to wet them, squeeze out the excess and knead it into a doughy consistancy and you have the perfect bait for these applications. Lasts a long time and doesn't break down, in minnow traps, for days. Stick your hand back into the water, swish it and your "kitchen" is clean! Carp and minnows DIVE on this stuff!
Additionally, if you get skunked fishing and you run low on food you can eat the WHEATIES - pour in a bowl, get a can of..............
