Outfitting a new boat and I have been looking at other boats and I am trying to decide which side to place kicker on. I am leaning(pun) towards the portside to offset my weight. What side is your kicker on and why did you do it that way????

I would agree with your thought. I have always placed my gas kicker on the port side to offset my weight and my transom trolling motor on the starboard where it is easier to reach.

I agree. Its also easier to keep an eye(pun) on it when you are at the helm.

It might depend on kicker steering type. Tiller or remote.
Remote will work on either side. Tiller steering will have to go on the starboard side since it is very uncomfortable to steer the kicker if on the portside, especially when trying to make a right turn in forward gear.

I agree with Steve-- I run mine on the starboard side because it's more comfortable for me to steer it. I spend a lot of time trolling with the kicker in fast current, and need quick throttle and steering response-- so I don't use remote steering. I've noticed some boats are set up so you can only place the kicker on the port side, so apparently that works for many people.
