Need some help with what type of stand alone GPS
unit to buy. Maybe a Lowrance 160? Any ideas

The LMS-160 is a great unit. You can use your computer to enhance the detail of any area (like a cartridge) you choose. Navionics also sells more detailed maps as well that have countour lines. I've been using a 160 for a year now and have really been pleased. I only wished they had given the screen a slightly higher pixel count, but other than that, I highly recommend it.
