Buddy just bought this boat used. It has a 13.25x17 aluminum prop. He gets 42MPH gps, @ 5800 RPMs, and it doesn't hook up very well. The boat wake is visible at the windshield, and the prop blows out in corners when not trimmed down. I am aware that this is a fault of the aluminum prop, and am wondering if anyone is running a similar rig with an SS prop. If so, what prop are you running, at what top end speed/rpm, and how is the handling?
Thanks,

I have an 1800 Fisherman and a 135HP Verado - just put a SS 17" (Sivlerado) on it. I picked up some speed, dropped 200RPMS, however I can trim farther and the cornering bite is way better - hole shot is quicker - - - to me well worth the money spent

It is a disservice to a customer to package an aluminum prop on that boat with a 130 engine on the back.
But.....if he puts an SS prop (with some cupping) on it.. the bow will come up and spray will move way back.
:) (even with that pooch on the back)

I currently have a 2006 1700 with a 135 Opti and a 21 pitch Mercury Enertia prop. That combination produces a top speed nearing 50mph (little hesitant to go wide open for long time), great hole shot and holds tight in turns and in choppy water; I'm really, really satisfied with that combination.
Originally, it came with an aluminum prop which was woefully inadequate. I was able to test several props through Mercury's Test Prop program until I found one I liked. There was a small charge to use each prop. Really cool thing about that dealer was that when I decided to purchase the Enertia prop, all the money I has spent on test props was returned (actually applied to purchase).

Go with a Powetech Raf 15 pitch, you'll have a hard time blowing out that prop, its has lots of cupping, should be able to run the same speed and it will put you up to the max 6000 rpm mark.
