I'm looking into getting a new boat. Most likely a 16ft Lund Rebel SS or Crestliner Fishhawk. Anyone on here have either one of these? Any feedback would be great! Thanks

Go with a REBEL XL SS if you are going with Lund it has the new slotted gunnel for attachments, it has the built in gas tank, for the little extra cost you will be very happy with this boat. good luck and good luck fishing in what ever you choose.

As long as you're still looking and have not decided, have you looked at the comparable Alumacraft? It sounds like that would be the Classic 165. Lund and Crestliner make fine boats, so does Alumacraft (yep- I bought one after looking at Lund and Crestliner and have been really happy with the decision). If you have your heart set on an outboard brand other than Mercury, note that Alumacraft is the only one of the three still independent of Brunswick Corporation (Not knocking Mercs- I bought one for my Alumacraft).

I just picked up a Rebel 1625 XL SS on Friday and took it out for the first time today. I paired it with a 75 h.p. Yamaha 4 stroke and could not be happier. The boat handled better than expected and felt very stable even with 2 adults moving around in the boat with a decent amount of chop. I have only had the boat out once and I'm sure in time I will find things that I don't like but so far I am very happy with it.

Which color did you get it in? Any pics?

i'm looking at buying the same class boat you are. i'm favoring the alumacraft. i think the three boats mentioned here are pretty equal, however from what i heard, the finish on the crestliner is the worse of the three. also i want an etec so the alumacraft gives me that option. i probably will buy from Cabelas and they give the choice of merc, yammie or evinrude. good luck in your search, either boat you choose will give you years of fun on the water.

I didn't know Cabelas sold alumacraft. What is the price difference between the etecs and a yamaha or mercury 2stroke in similar hp? I would probably be looking at a 50 or 60

What do you do for dealer service when needed if you buy from Cabela's? Do they have their own dealer/maintenance shop? I am looking right now for a new boat and I prefer to shop at dealerships instead of the big box type stores.

I went with the red color, I took some pics when I got it home but for some reason they did not turn out so I will try and get some new ones.

I really like the red one. The only one I have never seen a picture of is the gray one. How come lund only shows the black on the site?

I cross shopped the Fish Hawk vs Rebel vs Classic last summer. Got quotes on all three as they are all excellent boats. Ended up buying a Rebel with Yamaha 75 EFI, what seems to be an excellent combo. Here's what I came up with:

-Fish Hawk has wider beam (3") and this translates to a larger feeling boat
-Exterior wise, I prefer the Lund. Great graphics and you can't beat that Lund Red color
-Console / Dash board, I like the look of the Lund and Crestliner. Why didn't they carpet the interior walls of the Classic? Otherwise I really like that boat.
-Rear casting deck is nicer on the Fish Hawk since it extends on the sides all the back way to the Transom.
-Port and Starboard rod lockers on the Lund and Alumacraft.
-The overall layout is personal preference. The Fish Hawk has a longer bow casting deck that feels roomier. This means there seems like less area from the console to transom. So if you fish with one or two people the Fish Hawk may be better. If you have a family of 4 like I do, I think the Lund is better. Alumacraft is a little narrower.
-Cargo nets on bow with the Fish Hawk, where I had to add them to my lund
-This is a big one for me. The Lund has a really wide livewell opening for getting those big girls in and out. Seems pretty narrow on the Fish Hawk. Good width on Alumacraft also.
-My favorite thing on my boat is the aft flip up seats that I had installed by my Lund dealer (around $500). It gives more leg room for the rear passengers (kids) than having 4 pedestal seats, but flips down to give a really nice carpeted rear casting deck.
-No splash rail for Rebel. Don't know why, but it doesn't seem to be too bad on mine.
-Fuel/water separator on Classic. Also allows you to choose your outboard where I paid $250 to de-rig the Merc from my Lund.

Two pics of my Lund:

Oh and by the way, I found some pics of the grey colored Lund Rebel. Go to trader.ca and search for 1625 rebel xl sport. There is a gray one in there. I've never seen one in person either, but it looks okay.

Also if you do go with the Lund, I have a couple of suggestions for you. Make sure you get the dealer to install a trim gage (doesn't come with one and is both functional and looks incomplete without). Also if possible have them re-wire the trolling battery to the either side of the bow storage compartment. With that 369 lb Yamaha on the back, the weight distribution is not very good. Mine porpoised pretty readily until I moved the battery up front and moved the anchors to the front bow storage.

I bet that 75 Yamaha really moved the rebel. How much extra did putting on the yamaha cost you?

Sounds like we have almost the exact same setup. I had my dealer raise the Yammy up a notch when mounting it, but i also had the dealer mount the deep cell battery and on-board charger in the bow and have had no problems. I am wondering what pitch prop you are running.

I didn't get a quote on the 75 Merc 4s because it's such a large motor (400 lbs and really tall). I got the same pricing on the 75 Etec, but went with the Yamaha because I troll a lot. Also I wasn't sure how smooth a 3 cylinder would be. I only paid $250 to de-rig the Merc controls and re-rig with Yamaha.

I love that motor, it's awesome. I'm currently running the stock aluminum 13.25x17 pitch prop. Motor is all the way down, but am considering raising a notch if I get a stainless prop. I get the full 6000 rpms and top out at 40.5 with a light load. After moving the weight forward I may have lost about 1 mph, but it no longer porpoises at half trim, in fact I can trim all the way up. Also it sits pretty level at rest now, whereas before the bow pointed up. HM, what are you running for prop, rpm's, and speed?

Overall I'm really pleased with the boat. 40 mph out of a 75 horse motor is pretty impressive in my book.

Ball park price for my rig was mid to high teens. That inlcuded 75 Yamaha upgrade, Shorelander trailer, 55# autopilot and universal sonar, extra seat for bow, aft jump seats, and snap cover. Had dealer throw in trim gage, extra sport brackets, fire extinguisher, etc. That Shorelander trailer works very well too.

Not a bad deal at the time (mid to late summer 08), but wasn't exactly the smoking deals I expected given the economy. I don't think Lund has really deep discounts even given our current situation. Margins are likely lower for the Rebels than some of the higher models.
