My buddies and I are planning our first ever Rainy trip the weekend after easter and was wondering any good places to stay. I know this is very short notice and most everything will probably be full but you never know. Is everything jig and minnow that time of year? What bait shops would you recommend? Thanks for the help.

I always stay at Sportsman's Lodge, out on the river. # is 800-862-8602. Ask for Al Holte, who is one of the best guides on the system for advice. Tell'em I'll sink his boat if he leads you astray. lol
Don't get stuck on jigs and minnows, but they usually work well. Most any approach will work if you find'em. I find that "swimming" the jig there works better than popping it. Key in on areas from Frontier to Birchdale.

What is the word on the river? Is it going to be fishable by boat anytime soon, or should I keep the auger gased up and head to LOW?

I've stayed at the Wig Wam the past 5 years with no complaints. I don't have the number handy, but I know they have a website. Kevin Olmstead is the gentleman you need to speak to. They have motel, cabins, restraunt, and bar.

You can get the best info on the Rainy at www.clementsonresort.com They are on the river in the hart of spring fishing. I haven't stayed there since my buddy has a trailer. They have a daily update on river condisions and fishing reports. My boat has been parked in the driveway since Feb 27.
