I'd like to backup my waypoints and icons so I have them in case somebody lifts the gps. Appreciate info on how to copy to either cd or blank card.

Okay, I found what seemed to be a really easy way to duplicate the waypoints and icons to a blank mmc card. Problem is when I tried to follow the steps with the card in, the screen would show only the 3500c logo. When I took the card out, the unit would go through the progression okay but would then say there had to be a card in to transfer data. I even tried entering without the card up to the dupe point and then putting in the card, but the unit would go back to the 3500c screen as soon as I put in the card. The card is the right size and fits, but the little copper bars on the back aren't all the same. ?????????

Use a Sandisk brand SD card. Any 256mb,512mb, or 1gb card will be more than sufficient for transfering waypoints on or off. If trails and routes are to be saved or loaded also, stay with the 512 or 1g card. From what I understand there have been compatability issues when trying to use 2gb cards so stay away from them for this purpose.
Insert card with unit off (make sure card is NOT in lock position), power up unit and exit out of warnings to main screen. Hit menu twice and go to system setup, choose transfer data option, choose save option, choose MMC option? or maybe it will default to this option, hit enter and it will prompt you that files were successfully transfered when done (should take less than a minute and probably only a few seconds). Exit back out to main screen and power down. Remove card and your good to go..

Good luck, RJ

The 2 gb was the only one available (Murphy's Law), so that is what I used. I tried it in a newer unit at Gander Mountain to see if the card was defective, and it worked fine, but maybe it is overkill for the 3500c.
Will try a smaller capacity card. Thanks much!

Went to Radio Shack - when I phoned them they indicated they had a lot of Sandisk 256 and 512 cards available - when I got there, they didn't. Went to another place (f.y.e.) and they had 256 and 512, but Colby, not Sandisk. Bought a 256. Worked fine, and I also burned a cd, so I am now doubly backed-up. :-)
