HDS 7 updating...need help

I thought I had a brain, but maybe not. I have an empty 1GB SD card loaded into my PC. I go to lowrance to get the current HDS 7 update. I hit the link and nothing happens. So i choose the other option by selecting my operating system and it does save the update to my card, takes 20mins or so. I check the SD card and the full 309MB update is on there. I put it in my machine and according to the website, turn it on and it will update. Well, that doesn't seem to happen. I played with it for half an hour, then checked the version it is using and it is the old one after I turned it off and restarted it.
What the **** am I doing wrong? Anyone?

Make sure you are choosing Run not Save once it prompts you to download the file.

That sounds like the same problem I had (HDS 5), here is what VaGuy suggested I do and it worked perfectly:

"What do you see on the SD card? If you see only one file, the update
needs to be installed on the data card first. Put the card back in the
computer, click on the file and wait for it to install. It will take a few
minutes and produce 3 or 4 files. Then put the card in the HDS and turn
it on, it will only take about a minute to update and will give you a
message to push the power button when done."

Hope this works for you too, I know how frustrating this is!

BINGO. thanks for your help, and VAGUY you are da man! 15 mins on this site, problem solved. sometimes the old green box doesn't seem so bad afterall...........

After the upload, my data card says 215MB of maps. Am I missing something?
