View Full Version : hds 5 screen problem
I installed the transducer according to the manual in the same spot as my old ducer. When I speed up past 5mph I start getting vertical lines on my screen. The faster the speed the heavier the lines. Does the transducer need to be lowered into the water farther? It is right where the manual said it should be. Anyone have a solution? Screen is clear at idle speed up to 5mph. It also shows bottom and indicates depth when running at higher speeds(15-30).
Thanks for any response, Gill

I haven't yet experienced this situation myself (very little on the water time with my HDS 7). However, if your transducer is mounted correctly and there are no problems with cavitation, I'd suggest you try increasing the ping speed or changing fishing mode to fast trolling. When you do determine what remedy works for your situation, please post your solution.

My HDS 5 is doing the same thing. I wish it would quit raining so I can run the boat safely to adjust the transducer to see if it makes a difference. When I do and if it makes a difference I'll make a post.

That sounds to me like electrical interference or transducer mounting???? Make sure you've selected the proper transducer in the installation menu and try rearranging the power cables and/or tweaking the transducer mounting to see if you can identify what's causing the problem.
Hondo;
I've had two different fishfinders on this boat and neither of them had this issue so I am ruling out electrical interference. The new transducer is mounted in the exact same spot as the last two. Might be air bubbles coming under the transducer. I will probably lower it and see what happens. I'll post my results but won't be up to the boat til Sat.
Thanks for the replies, Gill

I changed my sonar settings to "Shallow Water" and ran the boat up to 30 MPH and didn't have the vertical lines this time. I left the transducer in its original location.
I figure you checked this, but it also says not to cnnect your sonar head unit's power to the TM batteries.
