I would not ordinarily bother even responding to a post like this. I always try and let my conservaitve id rest as much as possible. In the article it states "Anonymity gives birth to free speech" "It incourages people to say things that are really on their minds". Tell you what reels. I want you to say to everybody you meet today exactly what your thinking and whats on your mind. If your not in jail up on charges tomorrow, let me know how it worked out. Capt: Dan.
Be responsible. Don't tell deliberate lies or make up and state untruth's about people and you are fine. There is a difference between stating your opinion and then stating it and making up lies so it has a louder impact on the people listening to it.
If you read that article you will find out that all the cases were legitimate. People in the article were telling lies to defame other individuals and corporations.
If you plan to slam a manufacturer on a site you had better have your evidence somewhere to back up your claims. I personnaly do not feel that is an infringement on your right to free speech. You certainly do not think a guy should be able to identify you and then go on a posting spree telling the whole world that you molested him 10 years ago when he was a little boy?

Im not siding either way, so Im not sure why the question to me. I just thought it was an interesting article regarding flaming going on, and the recent questions whether people should register or not.
Alot of internet boards make you register just for this reason. They are afraid of liability.
Sorry if it was taken as a slam to anyone...

I think it mostly goes to show how money controls the world. You have free speech until you cause somone else to lose money, then you're in big trouble. You can buy the law, OJ Simpson showed us this.

Maybe one of these can help explain why we need to be accountable for our actions, no matter what space we are in?
Do not to your neighbor what you would take ill from him.
- Pittacus, 650 BCE
Do not unto another that you would not have him do unto you. Thou needest this law alone. It is the foundation of all the rest.
- Confucius, 500 BCE
Avoid doing what you would blame others for doing.
- Thales, 464 BCE
What you wish your neighbors to be to you, be also to them.
- Sextus (Pythagorean), 406 BCE
We should conduct ourselves toward others as we would have them act toward us.
- Aristotle, 384 BCE
Cherish reciprocal benevolence, which will make you as anxious for another's welfare as your own.
- Aristippus of Cyrene, 365 BCE
Act toward others as you desire them to act toward you.
- Isocrates, 338 BCE
This is the sum of duty: Do naught unto others which would cause you pain if done to you. - Hinduism, 300 BCE
What is hateful to you, do not to your fellow men. That is the entire Law; all the rest is commentary.
- Rabbi Hillel, 50 BCE
Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
- Jesus of Nazareth, circa 30 CE
There appears to be a theme here?

Eddy, that raises the question then, should we be treating corporations, although not a living thing, with the same respect that we would any person?

Absolutely not!Corporations enjoy limited liability for their actions which are really just the actions of the people who control them.People should enjoy the same freedom from liability when discussing opinions of those corporations' goods and services. That is providing you actually own or regularly use one of those goods or services.
