View Full Version : Lowrance LCX-112c depth issues

I've seem recently in searching this site owners of the 111s and 112s have had problems with the depth sounder locking up or losing the bottom signal entirely, and I've got a problem, but I think it's something different. I'll be either running or stopped, and the depthfinder will suddently start giving me 1.something to 2.something feet readings when I'm very obviously in 20+ ft of water. The readings will bounce around a little, and sometimes it will correct itself, but sometimes I shut it down and start it again, and it sometimes is cured and sometimes is not. This can persist for a couple minutes. This unit was brand new last season. Any thoughts?

#1 there is an updated software update that fixed the shallow water problem.
Check your Battery to make sure you have 12.6 or better.
May also have a Bad Transducer to change out.

I've seen very similar behavior with my LMS-527 when the sonar unit is in Shallow Water mode, both trolling slowly and running WOT. I am running the "latest and greatest" software version 2.4.2 BETA, so a software update may not be the entire answer for you. So far, if I switch the unit to General mode, the problem clears up immediately, no need to cycle the power.

try a new transducer, alot of guys have had that problem around here, new transducer fixs it

FWIW, my LMS-527 has 2 new transducers and misbehaves like your LCX-112c with either transducer. One transducer is a Lowrance, the other an Airmar P66. In my case, I'm sure it's a software/configuration issue.

I have had the same issue with my HDS-8. the bottom stays locked up but I get digitial depth readings 1.5 ft to 3.0 ft. It happened the other day I was fishing in 25ft to 28ft, I couldn't get it to clear. the next day I fished a shallow lake 5 to 6 ft and it was fine. I am running the unit in the shallow water mode.
