I just bought the unit today and installed it into my boat.. I cant figure out a way to load my waypoints that I saved on an SD card from my lowrance onto my new hummingbird...Is there a way to do this or is this what happwns when you switch brands?

Yes, you can load them all. Go to the Humminbird website, register your 917 and download the PC program. You can open the "usr" (Lowrance) file and then save it to an SD card and load it on your 917. I go back and forth all the time.

How do you like the unit so far? Trying to figure out which unit to get.

I am loving my humminbird! I really like the snapshot. Its great for trolling. It marks the waypoint and saves a still picture of your graph so I know exactly how fast I was trolling, how deep, was I marking fish, ect. It great! I would recomment a HB over a lowrance, hands down..... Now that I have owned both it humminbird all the way! I just need a couple of HB decals:driver:

I think it was last year I was talking with Tom Keenan up at the Wausau store and he said he wasn't happy with lowrance and was switching. I am sure there are awesome features on there I will never use but looks like I will be getting a HB.
Do you wish you got the bigger display or is yours fine? I will use the gps/split screen a ton.

I have no problem reading mine when going 50+ mph... I like thew wide screen as opposed to a tall screeen becasue I am a short guy (5'6") and I can see over the top of my HB so it doesnt obstruct my view. I like being able to see everything when running at WOT... The colors on the HB are WAY better than lowrance. Easier to see from all angles. The passenger in my boat can see the screen clear as can be. I love my 917
