Have many of you ordered things from catalogs and found the mail order/UPS/PRS etc? to be VERY slow? Mebbe just MY stuff?

I've found the timing to be more than adequate. The one thing I have noticed is that whoever is used for shipping (with the exception of Fed Ex) does everything possible to damage a package, including crushed rod tubes, mutilated boxes, etc. My UPS driver dreads coming to my building with a package in less than pristine condition. I realize he probably didn't damage it, but SOMEBODY is gonna hear about it!!
Regards
so far i have found that when i order from cabelas or BPS that i get the stuff in 3-4 days instead of the 10 days that they always tell me, as far as damage goes i have had a few boxes that look like they were roughed up but have never had to send anything back cause of damage.

I usually do 7 to 10 orders a year from Cabelas and BassPro and have only had one order take longer than stated. By far, the majority come 1 to 3 days early.

Yeah Dave. Hear ya on the damage. We ship over 500 PC's a month through UPS and damage is fairly high. Customers don't want to pay for FedEx and sign a waiver prior to shipping with UPS. UPS is running at about 4% damage with us. Thay may sound low, but that is about 15-20 customers a month that file claims or refuse delivery due to package damage. It is worse during the holidays. But the price is what people want, and they get 96% through fine.
Unless your item is not well packaged and not too heavy, UPS will find a way to smuck it. (Sorry Joe, I know you deliver them, not smash them) Our driver is the best in the business, but the hub sorters are not!
As far as timing, I guess your delivery location would have a lot to do with how long it takes. We get great delivery times here in the Twin Cities. Typically 3-4 days from either coast with UPS.
I would question when the packages are shipped. Sometimes the vendors blame UPS when they did not ship when promised. Check with the seller first. Also, get your tracking number and follow your package from origin to destination online.
