I just bought a new Garmin GPS 12 online. After making the purchase and not having recieved it yet I'm wondering if I made a good choice. Any comments good or bad are welcome. Was it a good choice? Thanks.

I have been using my GPS 12 for several years and am very happy with it. I can use it for fishing, hunting, travel or whatever. It is small enough to go anywhere. If you leave it turned on all day it will use up the batteries. You can either buy a power cord or do as I do and only turn it on when I want to use it. It is accurate enough to suit me. I have found anything that I entered into it. I have used it in conjunction with a good map to get into wilderness elk areas for the first time. The manual can be a little intimidating. I am certain that the unit will do stuff that I haven't figured out yet. Once you stop punching in MOB :( (man overboard) icons I think you will be happy with your purchase. I have found that it is best to name your waypoints right away. It doesn't take long to forget where all those numbered waypoints are. Good luck.

I have garmin gps 12 and i think it is great for the money. I us it in my boat with the power adaper. I can caught a fish and go over the same spot over and over.I also use it for ice fishing, and when i get into fish i can mark it and go back to about 20 ft. of where i fished the day before. You made a great purchase in my book. good luck!

It is one purchase you won't regret. My only dis of it is the power consumption issue.

It is a great unit for the price. It is easy to use and it gets me to where I want to be... and back. Marble eyes is right though, it eats up batteries like pastries at a cop convention. I use an adapter to plug in the cig lighter.

They have the 12 volt power cords on Ebay . I bought one on there for 12.50 plus 2.00 shipping.
I'm not sure of the difference, but the 12XL I use is great. It's made a lazy navigator out of me. I use to look at landmarks to find my way around Mille Lacs, now I just hit the go to button and watch the screen.

for the same money (or close to the sam e ammount)you could have gotten an I finder and had the ability fo rextra memeory and already have a base map. Just a thought.

I agree with all the posts. Mine has treated me well over the years. It is nice to be able to go back to the same spots on a lake (or close) that you don't frequent very often. Simple, easy to use, and I almost always use the plugin power cord in both my boat and truck. Have fun with your new tool/toy.

Great unit, priced right. I always take it ice fishing with me. It does like to eat batteries though.
