LEWT Anglers Prepare for Sandusky Event

The Western Basin Sportfishing Association (WBSA) and Lake Erie Walleye Trail (LEWT) will be hosting the third event of the 2009 Starcraft Marine, Crown Battery LEWT tournament series Saturday May 9th at the Sandusky City ramp.

“Crown Battery has been a very good supporter of the LEWT and we are happy to have this event named after them” said WBSA President Marc Hudson. “There was a tournament held out of Sandusky just this past weekend and the number of 40 pound plus bags brought to the scales was amazing and we expect to see a lot of big fish show up Saturday at our weigh in and would like to invite the public to come down Saturday afternoon with activities beginning at 3 PM.”

The race for the Team of the Year is still wide open and will really start to take shape after this event. Currently Jerome Dorlack and Todd Miller sit at the top but there are many teams that are still in the running. In addition to winning the title teams are fighting for the chance to earn a berth to the AIM Championship. The WBSA was also just notified this past week that it is now a Cabelas National Team Championship (NTC) qualifying circuit and will be sending its top teams to the 2010 NTC.

As in past years there will be a Starcraft Marine Contingency award at all of the LEWT events. Any owner winning the event out of their Starcraft boat will be eligible for a $250 bonus from Starcraft. If that boat was purchased from Vics Sports Center or Cranberry Creek Marina they are eligible for an additional $250 from the dealership to bring the total to $500. “We are excited to be a part of the LEWT again this year and also to be able to make running a Starcraft boat a valuable commodity for the anglers” commented Greg Yarbrough, Starcraft Marine representative.

“At press time there were 2 spots left for the Crown Battery LEWT Sandusky event” commented LEWT Tournament Director Matt Davis. He continued “We are also currently taking applications for both divisions of the inaugural Gator Open Pro Am to be held in September and more info about that can be found on our website.”

The remaining 2009 schedule is as follows:

June 6 – Sandusky – City Ramp “Crown Battery LEWT” (Blow Date June 7)
June 27 – Geneva – “Migration Open” (Blow Date June 28 )
July 25 – Championship Sheffield Lake – Sheffield Lake City Ramp (Blow Date July 26)
