No need for a special trap. We built them out of wire mesh and tie wire. We found building our own larger flat bottom trap with a little bigger entrance and the entrance going in upward helped.
We used a half stack of saltines crunched up and stuffed in a short length of "panty hose" tied at both ends. Ends up about the size of a baseball. We also tried soft dog food, beef liver, cat food, bread...for whatever reason they like the crackers best. You have to check the trap often if you want numbers, it doesn't take them long to find the trap if your set in the right hole...it can be loaded up in a hour. If you leave it to long, they can and will get back out. Clean, cold creeks/streams and the deeper holes below faster moving current can hold nice numbers.
Or...go catch them with the ultra light. A small hook, splitshot and a tiny chunk of crawler. If your in a good spot you can catch a dozen in as many minutes. There were times we would opt to catch them with the rod rather than trap them.

chub have been one of my main target species, have had many a session touch ledgering for them and without doubt cheesepaste would be my bait of choice if forced to choose one. Lobworm would also be right up there, but not half as selective.

I've never had a need for special traps. We always used the standard ole round minnow traps with some dry dog food inside. Just open the hole a little if you want larger chubs. I just pulled mine up yesterday and caught a ton.
This is all we ever used and cabelas has em' for 10 bucks.
