I just bought a couple Gary Roach Planers and they keep bouncing throught the water. They just don't seem to glide along like others I have seen. I have contantly messed with the adjustable weight, my speed, etc... Can anyone clue me in to what I am doing wrong?

Are you saying that they're bouncing even in calm water? Are they trying to dive or something?

I would ask the same question. If they are doing that in heavy seas, against the wind, that's normal. All inline planers will do that. I can't imagine they would act that way in calm water

According to the instruction at www.churchtackle.com

"TO TRIM BOARD: When using heavy drop weights and crank baits move weight forward. In heavy waves move weight backwards"

I have had the same problem as you stated in dead flat water when running a long lead to the crank. Hope this helps.

I had the same problem with my Roach boards and finally cured it..... I went back to my Offshores.

You want the boards to start and stop and start again. This causes the bait/lure to stall and jerk ahead acting as a trigger to the fish. This holds true for all boards and is a normal thing. If you are pulling hard diving baits or heavy weights it will be more pronounced. Move the weights most of the way forward and leave them there. They'll run better and track to the side more consistently.

My guess is you are running a super-braid line with a long soft rod. This causes a "load the rod / jerk the board" cycle that's just going to be there. Good luck and catch a biggun.
