Fish180 I had an 2005 198 for 3 years and loved it. I now have a 202 and this is my 3rd Triton. The 198 is a great boat and will let you fish any water. The speed, ride and quality of this boat is second to none imho. It has a ton of storage with a lot a room to move around. If the boat that you are looking at has been taken care of you will not regret it. Good luck with your future purchase.

I have had mine since 06 love the boat. I have thought about selling this year though. Not because of the boat but just because I have always changed every couple years, but when I think of the cost to replace it I quiver. Had 3 Rangers before it all have been good boats now the motors have been a different story.....
Feel free to email me any specific questions

Not so good for big water, we call it "The Wet Boat", regularily takes water over the nose in 2 1/5' waves. Had a dickens of a time solving porpoising problems. Still not 100% happy with the performance.

Good layout, fit and finish.

If you have to have a Triton try to get ito a 202X, I hear the have fewer hull issues.

I have a 198X and am surpised by your remarks. I had an 1895 YarCraft before mine and I think the Triton rides better and is drier. I don't know how you are set-up, but I have a 200 Opti with a 21 Rev4. It's been great. I have been in waves like you describe and have never taken one over the bow.

Many experienced "rough water boaters" seem to agree that water over the bow is usually "driver error," I think. Certainly some boats may be more proned to this, and I can't speak to the Ranger vs Triton debate... However, I know people with both rigs and both seem happy. I think when you hit this level of of fishing machine, it's more about preference, not performance. I'd take either of those rigs!!
