I have a Lowrance 7800C at the helm and want to add a 7" GPS up at the fishing seat in front.
what's the cheapest way to do this:
My 7800C has the orange ethernet plug
I don't need sonar capability
Can I share the antenna currently purchased by using the ethernet plug?
I want to use map chips in both units, I don't believe this info can be shared? need to purcahse for both?

Thanks for any suggestions.

The Ethernet plug won't do it for you, it is for sharing Sonar data from what I know. I can't identify a Global Map 7800C on the Lowrance Web site, is it a 7600, does it use an LGC2000 GPS module? If it is NEMA 2000 capable then you could share waypoints between two head units but I think that is only the newer units that support this capability. If your unit supports NEMA 2000 then I think you could add a unit that also supports NEMA-2000 (network connection on back of unit) to the front and use a single GPS Module. Either way you would need map chips in both units.

Go to the Lowrance support web site, self Support and search on NEMA 2000 networks, that should give you what you need to figure this out.

You would be good to go with another head unit such as your 7200C or a newer device and setting up the NEMA 2000 configuration per your manual and the Networking Guide:

Go to Lowrance web site, select the Support tab then product support and then Manuals. Scroll down to NEMA 2000 and select "NMEA 2000 General Information Pamplet", page 14 will show you the configuration for your 7200C. The other documents in this category are also useful.

Good luck,
Paul
