Anybody been out to this area lateley?? Wondering how the fishing has been, I know the weather has been cool. I would suspect the fish are stacked in the submerged trees, am sure that is gonna take some tackle. Heading out Friday afternoon be there for 4 days, let ya know how we did when we return. Mike

Don't be afraid to go down inside the Cheyenne river, fished there 5/29 got a 4-man limit. Been seeing a lot of good reports coming from there. GOOD LUCK.

Do you remember me ? You helped us find some fish acouple years ago when we were staying at West Prairie. We're going out there june 22. Would really appreciate a report from there if you get back before june 21. minkman@springgrove.coop The info I've gotten so far on the area is nothing going in the lake but way up the Cheyenne is real good. gary

OK.... Here is the scoop from Oahe, at least from our experience last week.

We fished the Cheyene a couple of days ( Tues & Wed. ) and did well, but short of filling. Some people filled, other got shut out completely. If you're on the right point at the right time you're in but many good fisherman never found the bite. Think deep like 30 - 40 ft.

We fished Whitlock's Thursday and Friday and did much better. We fished North of bridge on the West side. Just outside the the old shoreline at 20-25 ft. For my money, better than the Cheyene without the long boat ride or long drive to Mineconju ( sp?).

Minnows were the best producer over worms.

Had a freind that went to Stove Creek on Friday and had three total for a slow day. Sutton may be picking up but I know of no confirmed reports.

Good Luck

Just got back today too from Oahe. Went last thursday thru today. Needless to say it was disappointing. It was extremely slow. Went out on the water thursday about 4. Tried the Bush landing area clear over to the Little Bend area, all that bit was a single small mouth. Went as far as I was willing to go into the cheyenne river on Friday, 19 mile boat drive from the little bend ramp, I managed to get 2 walleyes in 40 to 50 ft water. Fished the cheyenne mouth and points all day Sat, I got 3 walleyes in 20 to 40 ft water for a total of 6 in my boat and 3 guys. Everyone I talked to said they were having a tough time, most were getting just a couple so I actually was doing better. Some even limited out but had to work real hard at it too. Just like JSO said, just had to hit a certain point at the right time. Plain snells tipped with nightcrawlers and bottom bouncers were the best producers where I went. I would wait a week or 2, hopefully the bite will pick right back up as I'm heading back out there next week. Good Luck.

Fished Cheyenne saturday. Slow. 2 keepers and 2 dinks. Using leeches and crawlers on bottom bouncers.

Just returned from Whitlock area, fish are definitely biting. Didn't catch our limit both days, but did get some really nice fish. Saw a lot of fish at the cleaning stations, so guess the bite is starting. By this weekend I would imagine there will be a long wait at most docks. Oh, and Gary, the boat I bought from ya caught fish just fine.

Report time
Well we did not go to the Bush's area, we decieded to go to Pollack as the fishing reports were much better. Limits every day for most people that stuck too it, 20 to 30 foot depth, around 300 boats out on Sat. but plenty of room, fished from 1 mile from ND border down to Shaws landing. Leeches, crawlers, minnows and did really well on lead and cranks. Fish seemed to be moving south as our last 2 days we were south of Pollack. Nice fish 16 to 24 inches. Good Luck Mike

Thanks eyeye for the report. Sounds like I should be going North farther next week but I'm already booked for the lower end. Anybody hear if any fish are coming out at Suttons bay ??--Hey mtelkhunter, I just noticed your reply. Good to hear from you. Hope the boat is working out for you. Next week, I'm coming after some of your SD walleyes. gg

Fished out of Sutton Bay last Friday. Pretty slow..managed to get 3. Water is still pretty dirty compared to Cheyenne areas. Only 1 other boat at ramp that day. Marked ton of fish just couldnt get'em to commit.

We fished just out of whitlock to the north, dragging cranks in 21' using anything with a little yellow on em and did very good. Trolled at 2.0 mph mostly with taildancers and rr's.
