WW - If You're gonna be using it with boards, go with the segmated (2-3 colors and backing). On the River that I fish, I use a Full core set-up. We flatline troll - hand holding the rod. With a 8lb. Fireline leader (a bit longer than the rod), let out line till You contact the bottom, then crank it up a couple of turns. Works VERY well. C-man

It would be nice to have a bunch of rods set up with just the amount of LeadCore that you need for a given situation, but the cost would be prohibitive for most of us.

I have 6 or 7 colors on my leadcore rods, that way I can adjust for depth / speed. I used to use segmented lead core a lot more but I feel I've got a much better handle on what's going on with all leadcore.

Before I used to use a full core of lead core and no backing. The last colors would get all bunked up at the end of the spool. Now I run Power Pro backing and 5 colors of lead.

Besides Walleyes, I fish for Stripers on Lake Norfork using leadcore. A lot of times I will be fishing with 10 colors and some backing in the water. You had better have plenty of backing on the reel when a big Striper hits your bait.

Even with backing, I have friends that have been spooled a few times. A big Striper dragging around 10 colors of leadcore with backing and leader is probably not fun for that fish.

Bob:

How much backing do you guys use? I had problems earlier this year before I started turning the boat to chase.

I use about 75-100 yards of 20 lb SpiderWire Stealth for backing.
