View Full Version : External GPS Antenna Needed....Or Not?

Do I need to purchase an external antenna for a Garmin 162 GPS if I were to permanently mount in the electronics compartment of the Lund 1700 Angler tiller? Or can I lock on to satellites with the internal antenna?

you only need the external antenna if you plan to flush mount the unit other wise not necessary and less stuff in your way then i have the same unit with the internal unit love it
Many posts about that indicate it is not needed. I have the 162 with external antenna on a ProV 1775 tiller and it was a bit of a pain to install the antenna flush. Obviously I have no problems locking on with the external, but others have said that the internal has no problems either. All things considered, if I was doing it over I would probably opt for the internal (It is also about $20 cheaper).
