how do snapweights work ?
how for from lure do you place them? never used them but might work here in alberta.

As far as you like. Typically, about 50 feet. I've used them like a poor mans downrigger up north for Lake trout. Even 8 oz weights will stay on the line bouncing bottom on ocassion.

They are princibly designed for suspended fish. Put a different weight on each line, usually 50 feet from the lure and 5 then let the same amount of line our on each rod and let the fish tell you which weight is the right one. Snap-Weights are not really designed for fishing the bottom however.
Check our offshoretackle.com and reuest their newspaper. It is full of information on using boards and snap-weights.

I use them occasionally in lieu of three way weights.... I have had some success tying spinners and night crawler harnesses directly to my line and using snap weights to increase the length of line behind the sinker when trolling or drifting....
