I will be in Door County this summer and early fall. I know about the salmon fishing but haven't fished for walleyes there. Is that a crankbait bite or harnesses bite? Any particular type of crankbait, Hot-N-Tot, Reef Runners, Rouges, Thundersticks, Husky Jerks? Thanks

Hey Mr D, I am not sure where in Door co you are goingto be visiting but I have a cottage in little sturgeon bay which is just alittle south of Sturgeon bay. I have been fishin up there for years. We run crawlers once in a while during the day but 90% of the time we are runnin cranks. I like #18 originals, Deep Husky Jerks (#12 or 14), deep smithwicks, ect... The biggest thing will be getting LARGE baits in front of them. You will catch more fish on smaller baits but have a better chance at a pig with bigger baits. Ihave never done well on hot n tots in door co..We troll on top of the reefs at night and sometimes look for suspended fish also at night just off the reefs... We are usually looking for suspended fish off the reefs during the day. The past few years the daytime bite has been just as good if not beter than the nite bite.... If the walleye are not poppin the pike fishin a awesome that time of year... Same baits but on shoreline points...........Go into my profile and check out my albums, its just a small sample of some of the fish I have caught up there:rock-on::rock-on:

We'd typically launch out of Bayshore in Brown County (south eastern part of the Bay) and have also fished on the west shore around Geanos reef. Most days last summer were decent with 7 to 10 21"-24" walleyes in 20 to 25 FOW with bottom bouncers and crawler harnesses. We had one morning in August with 4 walleye between 25" and 29" on harnesses.

Also, over th last few years, there have been more anglers hitting biger fish out of the Northern Door (out of Fish Creek, Ephraim and north).

I'll be up in the Baileys Harbor area so was looking at ramps north of Sturgeon Bay. It will be fun trying stuff that worked at Lake Erie and see if it translates over to the Bay. Will fish for salmon in July and August and well as try for some walleye. Plan to switch mostly to walleye in September.
