Maybe it was pinpoint. I just thought that it would be a great tool to have when trying to stay at one depth. Would be great for the reefs or upground reserviors.

I think the Tr 1 Auto something or other is what you're looking for. I think their pretty expensive though.

A TR-1 is for gas kicker motors, not electrics

The system that you are speaking about is the Pinpoint system. They were bought out by Motorguide I believe. I had the pinpoint 3700 series with displays at the bow and counsole. The Pinpoint trolling motor had 5 transduces mounted in the motor casing. Two at the sides, two at 45 degrees on each side and one pointing straight down.

The two side transducers were for what they called "shore lock." You could follow a lake or river shore at what ever distance you locked it in at and the motor would keep you at that distance from the shore for as long as you wanted to follow it.

The two transducers at the 45 degree angle was for following a certain depth of a dropoff either right or left side. The bottom transducer was for following a certain depth straight down. These were all controlled at the trolling motor head unit. It had a display that showed what depth or what distance you were following and you could change depth or distance at the trolling motor head.

It was great at following a shore line and following a dropoff but that's where it's greatness ended. If you tried to follow a certain depth, say 12' or 20' or what ever depth you wanted to follow. When you came to where the depth didn't change much the trolling motor would start spinning your boat in circles trying to find that exact depth it was following. It drove me nuts trying to use it to lock on the bottom straight downl. It would follow that contour until the contour changed to a flat bottom.

I sold my pinpoint and went back to the MinnKota auto pilot after fighting with the pinpoint for two years. Several times I wanted to use the Pinpoint for an anchor but the $2500 price tag kept me from doing that. I believe others had the same problem as I did. That's why they didn't last long on the market.
