I am new to Walleye Fishing and I want to use Dipsey Divers out in lake Erie.I have line counter reels and trolling rods. What is the best way to rig the Divers on to my line.

We use mini's on Erie & hook them up like the instructions say. We attach a 36" leader to them.
Work GREAT!
Where do u plan on using them?

15# power pro on the reels, palomar knot to the dipsey. 8' of 17# mono prefer trilene XL.

First, braided line is almost a must when running dipsy's so that you can trip them easily. I use 40/10 power pro, mainly because I fish for steelhead also. Most guys I know run 30/8 powerpro.
Ty a large snap swivel to end of your line. Attach to dipsy. For the dipsy leader, for walleyes, I use 20lb trilene XT. I put a snap on one end and a good quality ball bearing snap swivel on the other. I make them about 6 to 8' long. If running spoons, i put the snap end of the leader on the dipsy and attach spoon to the snap/swivel. for cranks off dipsy's, I reverse it.
hope this helps.

What Boatnut said. I use 30/8 Powerpro. Also, glue your rings to your dipsy so they don't become a problem. Paint your dipsy's flat black especially if fishing clear water.

How about the clear colored ones???? They seem to be more neutral in color than black??

i have a friend that runs clear and doesn't have an issue catching fish.... so i don't know if blacks are the only way to skin a cat.
I would recommend the smaller size that has a release (size 0), the ones that don't have a release (size 3/0) i'm not a big fan of as they don't really trip when you get a fish on at all.
I use 50/12 powerpro, but thats because they double as salmon gear with BIG dipsys running at faster speeds. braid is definitely needed. I know 15lb would probably work, but i'd bump up to 30lb if just going after eyes. after all, you have quite a bit of $$ on the end of your line when you're talking about dipsy, ball bearing swivels, and spoon/harness.

I've had nothing but trouble with the clear Dipsys over the years. My friends have experienced the same problems. The bottom plate always seems to warp over a very short time, rendering the Dipsy pretty much useless. I've even had my fair share of them fall apart while in the water.
As for the rings, throw them in the garbage. They're just another weak link in the equation. You'll just need to let out more line to reach the same depth as one with the ring, which is a good thing, because you'll get the presentation further away from the boat noise.

Because of you Hombre I don't use rings anymore, still pounding eye balls on dipsey's and no rings to mess with.
I've have a couple clear ones for a few years now I haven't had any issues with mine except that the rings came off but now I don't have that issue.
As far as leader material. If your just walleye fishing with no chance of a steelie I like 15 pound Seaguar Flouro, go as long as your net man and rod can allow, 6-8 ft is about the norm and this is what I use and go with. I'm 6'2 and go a "me" length.

great thread, I am actually in the same boat here. I got 4 rods with 20# braid for dipsies and 2 rods with mono for my riggers. But I have yet to buy a dipsy or start for walleye yet, maybe this weekend because the water is just starting to warm up and theyare starting to pick up a few fish this week.
Thanks Boatnut, nice & simple.

Question for u vets from a newbie. I just got 2 mag 10's installed. My buddy works at a baitshop here and hooks me up. He just bought a house so his fishing time is diminished until its fixed up & he & family move in. Well he put Black Marine RC 95 release clips on and took off the pinch pads. Now I am lost because I never used these before, just the pinch pads & I threw the dam box away. He isn't around and I'm wondering how the **** to use them let alone was this the right move????? We're going to try & hook up hopefully this weekend so he can show me but thought I'd throw that out there if you guys use these & if you like them.
Thx

Rings can definitly be a pain in the A##, but don't give up on them. Just Glue them on with Shoe Goo or Gorilla Glue. Started doing this last year based on a WC recomendation and No More Problems!
Give it a try.

I've got a couple of the walkers and I really like them. Same diameter as the luhr jensen's with a ring but theirs dont have a ring. My luhr jensen divers all have the rings glued on.

Just be careful with the factory terminal tackle on the walkers. Not the best track record.

No, MAYBE a small dipsey or diving disk by big jon but I've never tried, that's what jets inline weights and snap weights are for, dispey's are directional divers, you would defete the purpose, you can run small divers off big boards though. Alot of Erie guys do that.

Boatnut, from experience, I bought two of the medium Walkers and the welds on the back ring broke.
