Well, we just got back from a week long trip to fish Lac Lepage which is a small sub lake of the Gouin reservoir. There's only one outfitter on the lake but they also have Marmette. Some of you may have heard of Lac Lepage go by half moon or demi lune lake. Anyway the fishing started a little slow. We tried a few of the normal walleye hot spots with little luck, just picking off one here or there. Eventually I made the call to try the shallower water where it dropped off from 2 feet down to 10 feet. I found the eyes holding in about 6 feet of water on the drop off. They tore up both salted minnows and crawlers rigged on either a white or black jighead. Each evening they were pretty hot for what seemed like 2 hours and the bite would stop as the sun went down. I switched to trolling with a blue and silver shad rap in 10 to 11 feet of water at the bottom of the drop off keeping my lure either on the bottom or right off the bottom and the bite picked up again. Overall we caught quite a bit of walleye with the biggest being 27 1/2 inches (sorry, didn't have my scale) and the smallest (believe it or not) was 2 inches. I couldn't stop laughing as my dad felt a small nibble and set the hook. When he reeled it in there was a walley frey hooked on his treble stinger hook. It barely looked like an eye but I got a closeup pic of it since he'll probably never catch on that small again.
The only other thing I couldn't get over was how blue some of the eyes were. I mean, these things had dorsal fins that were pure aqua blue and the sides were silver. Down here in Pa all we catch are the golden colored walleyes so that was definitely a first for me. Other then that the weather was excelent (in the 80's) and the water temp hovered right around 60.
Well, I hope this helps anyone headed up!!
