What has happened to the Berkley Flicker Shads?? Cabelas and Bass Pro don't carry them anymore and Scheels has only a few leftovers. Does anyone have a good source to buy them from?

Thanks

I just ordered some from landbigfish.com but you could also try Amazon.com.
Either place should be able to set you up. When I placed the order they sent out what they had in stock and then mailed the rest once they got them. So if you need them you better order them ASAP.

Look at Purefishing.Com under Berkley Products

As I understand it (from what I consider very reliable sources) they're coming out with a whole bunch of new colors , that is the "reason for the shortages" , but again as I understand things, they'll be available very soon in some great new fish catching colors geared toward 'eyes...:raisin:

Why would Cabelas and Bass Pro not even carry them anymore? They have been good producers for me over the last year.

Why would Cabelas and Bass Pro not even carry them anymore? They have been good producers for me over the last year.

From what I understand there has been a "distribution problem" which is being worked on now, could also be they're running the old stock down so the new colors will sell better? (return on their new colors) ???

Not sure what all the reasons are but it is said they'll be available soon (whatever "soon" is to them)

Sorry I'm not more help not working for them or anything all I have is the information I've found while wondering the same things LOL

not sure where you live. mills fleet farm carries them at a decent price as well.

bout 2 weeks ago they (mills fleet farm) had them marked down to 2.79. Of which I purchased around 30 of them. I use them alot where I fish, and the colors that really have worked for me are the red tiger, black gold sunset and pearl chart. The lake I have been fishing is sorta stained water and they have been produicing well for me in about 10' of water and pulling them between 2.3 and 3.0 mph, with and occasional rip of the rod. They sure do smack them.
Plus their cheap enough, so when you lose one, its not so painful as in losing a shad rap.

I hope they keep making them becasue Ijust started running them this year. I only have about 25 of them. I would like to get about 25-35 more. I was at fleet farm in appleton the other day to get a few more of the shad rap colors that I have been getting fish on and I thought of this thread so I went to check out the flicker shads and they were all just about gone! I hope I see new ones come in soon!:censored:

Call Scheels in Bismarck. They have a bunch and will ship. Ask for Brent or Andrew in the fishing shop. (701)255-7255.

Im looking for more and we called up to Berkely in Spirit Lake and was told by the gal that answered that they weren't gonna make them anymore???? Not sure if she has company knoweledge of this or just has no clue as to what she was talking about. I know where I live, there are none to be found. I bought about 30 of back in June when fleet farm had a sale on them.
anyway I hope its not true, and really I don't think it is, But a person would think they would keep a stock on them in local shops??
Anyway, I got onto the "thenextbite"web site and they are saying they should be coming out with some new colors in the near future.

It would be too bad if they quit making them. It's a good crankbait that didn't get much recognition that it well deserved. Yes it outfished other (name) brands for me, and certainly helped with the (crankbait addiction, gotta have at least four in every color) budget compared to other name brands.

I do hope that Berkley keeps producing this bait, and adds some new colors too.

Just talked to a friend at Pure Fishing, they are discontinuing Flicker Shads.

Uh-Oh, better run to the closest shop and pick up every one they've got. I love flicker shads and so do the 'eyes. Go figure, a guy finally finds a cheap crank that consistently puts fish in the box and they discontinue it.

Just checked e-bay and there prices on flicker shads are starting to climb! Word gets around fast.

Wouldn't be a big surprise if they were discontinued, then reintroduced in more colors and at a higher price. My experience with them tells me that neither is needed to make them a more effective crank bait. This is probably just a situation where Berkley wants to get a little deeper into fishermen's pockets.

I haven't fished them extensively for 'eyes, but have found them very effective on multiple species when I've used them.

I bought two of each of their original colors in both sizes (total lof 4 in each color) when they were less than $2.00. I've lost a couple, but generally fish them off the bottom or in relatively open water, so I'm not going to panic. I'll probably pick up a few more the next time I run into them at a retail outlet, but I'm sure I've got other crankbaits that will produce just as well.

Just got off the phone with Berkley. Word is that the Flicker Shads will be here to stay, although inventories may get a bit low in the next few months, but the bait catches fish so well that it doesn't sound like they will be discontinued. So far new colors are on the horizon also, although I'd bet the price will go up a bit to more of a normal pricing. By the way, Brett King just won the Green AIM event with Flicker Shads. This bait has been phenomenal and has won more money on the pro tour in the last few years than any other bait. This is all I know at this point, and I'm sure I'll learn more after the big tackle show next week.

Thats good to know, I just hope they don't go everboard on their pricing. Its a good affordable crank, and lets hope it stays that way in both quality and pricing. I have used them hard this year and been very very productive for me. Its nice when stores mark them down to where you can pick up a dozen or so and not feel like you need to take a "loan" out to buy them.
Im still in search of my favorite colors, cuz we have no flickers in my area, sold out.
Thanks Gary for the update!

Speaking of Flicker Shads, has anybody else had problems with the hooks bending easily? They do not seem to be a real high quality hook. Maybe this is one reason for their low price point. Other than the hook problem, they have been a good lure for me.

Flicker Shads have put a lot of Walleye in my boat over 2 years. Last year my buddy put one on, and out fished the other two guys combined. We stocked up on them and they were $1.99 last year in Bismarck. I've only had to tune one, due to extreme abuse, with snags and fish.

You guys had me a little scared. I thought I was going to have to stock up. Yeah, I figured the price would go up since everyone catching them, or discontinue them. They should bring back the other Frenzy diver they discontinued, they work good too. Why would berkely change anything, aren't they in competition with the other companies? Or is it like the oil industry?

Yes, the hooks are a little cheap, I've even had to change a few out on some that have survived two years of walleye abusing them. We have to sort throught a few pike to and they are really hard on cranks. So if the price goes up, they better have better hooks.

I hope they don't go over board on the pricing, but I gather they will go up. It was nice when the Scheels where I live had them marked down to 1.99, bought lots, then fleet had them for 2.79, boughts lots again, and just called scheels in Bismark, and ordered 20 more...........and no I don't have an "addiction"!, well maybe if you ask my wife.
The hooks.............not very good, had several that at least 1 barbed has broken off, but then, maybe thats why the crank is lesser price than the others. I have been replacing the back hook with the red trebles, and they seem to run just fine. I guess we will find out in the near future as to what will be available, just hope they don't discontnue my fav colors.

My Pure Fishing source called me last night and said he was wrong about Berkley discontinuing Flicker Shads. He said they are discontinuing certain colors (he didn't say which), changing the packaging, and changing the name from Berkley Frenzy Flicker Shad to Berkley Flicker Shad. I was very glad to hear that, if I can find out what colors they are discontinuing I will post them.........

Thats what I heard on another web site, Gary Parsons had mentioned he called Berkely and got the info from his source that they weren't discontinuing them.
Yes, it would be nice to know what colors are going to be discontinued, that way I could search and get them before they are gone for good.

Anyone know if they still make the other two types of frenzy lures. I think they discontinues the one that is short and kind of thick, but the one that is longer might still be available. One of them is the diver I think.

They still have the Frenzy Firestick Minnows, in shallow and deep divers. The Frenzy Shad style baits are no longer made. They might have them at Fisherman's Factory Outlet, if you go on-line and look. Or call them.

Yeah I checked it out. The Frenzy Diver is discontinued. The Firestick minnow is still being offered, for how long though?? They both work good for walleye too. 2 weeks ago a buddy dug out a Frenzy diver and put 3 fish in the boat real quick.

I have had problems with the #5 Flicker Shad back hooks coming out. So far I have had this happen 3 times.

I love the #7 though. No problems with them and they have almost completely replaced the need for #7 SR's.

My dad had 2 #5's this weekend that the back treble pulled out, the one fish he got, but the other, he never did see the fish, but it "let go" only to find out the back hook pulled out from the crank?

The only store where I have seen many recently was at Scheels. Not sure what colors and models, but I picked up a few and seen more around in the bins.

Cabela's, Gander, and Bass Pro was unable to get them from the distributor too, so there is likely a case to be made they are running the stocks out to discontinue them.
