I've been using a Lowrance X-85 unit with acceptable results, but it quit giving me a bottom reading last week. Speed and temp still work, but depth reads "00" and range goes to 1,000 (in 20 feet of water).
I thought the transducer might have come loose in the hull (it shoots through) and might be lying on its side. But upon tearing into it, the transducer is rock solid, just as it was secured 8 or 9 years ago. Don't see any loose wires either.
I also plugged the transducer & power cables into another X-85 unit and the readings are the same; so I'm assuming the problem lies somewhere between the dash-mounted unit and the water.
Any troubleshooters out there who want to give this one a shot?
If someone has an operating transom-mount transducer (and cable) for the unit that they'd take a few bucks for, I'd consider trying that.
In a healthier (personal) economy, I'd upgrade to a color unit w/GPS, but. . .
Thnx in advance,
