Just bought the x 75 after lots of comparing and now can't wait to use it. But first i need to set the sucker up. My questions are
1. What is a good number to set the grayline at (your experience)?
2. What is a good number to turn the sensitivity up to before too much clutter?
3. Would i want to turn up the sensitivity up in clear water and down in stained water?
4. Anything else i should do with the set-up?
Going from a humminbird to this is a big jump and i just want to have a head start in the right direction. So THANK YOU to all who help this poor soul out :)
If it were mine, I'd leave it in auto until I got familiar with the unit, then change it as I felt the need.

I keep mine around 70

Depends on how much crap is floating in the water, usually between 60 and 80 is what I use

You should adjust it as conditions warrant, not necessarily just turn it up in clear water and down in dirty water. It won't necessarily be that black and white. General rule, keep the sensitivity as you can without picking up too much clutter.

Calibrate your speedometer, if you got that option. I didn't have to do anything else, mine worked great right out of the box.

Leave the unit in automatic mode and make sure the Fish Id. feature is turned off.
Byron,
Check out the Lowrance web site at www.lowrance.com. There is a sonar tutorial that will answer all of your questions about using any sonar unit. It also explains how to set your sensetivity and grayline.

I had an X75 several years ago--it's a good graph. These posts are right--leave it in auto most of the time. You can adjust both grayline and sensitivity while leaving it in Auto mode. I always leave grayline set at 31%. I change sensitivity often--turn it up until the screen clutters, then back down a little.
