Gents,
I would appreciate any inut you guys have on depth with leadcore. Never pulled it before. Just wondering if you guys have any guidelines or rules of thumb for speed and depth for a guy to use as a starting point of speed to depth... ie. per color 1.5 mph, 2.0 mph, 2.5 mph etc.
I have done searches and see that 2.0 was like 5 feet per color? Do you all agree?
Thanks,
Todd

Yes, that is a good starting point. Because there are so many variables, the only way you can really know, is to go to an area with a sandy or muddy flat bottom and start letting out line at various speeds and depths. This will get you right on according to your boat and set up. ie. leader length etc. Like everything else in fishing, time on the water will dial you in.

I think that the five foot rule is pretty good for the first five colors but the next five won't get you down as far. I've done the bump test and found that for my 2.1mph trolling speed and ten colors out I was only getting down forty feet. There may have been some currents that I was dealing with so who knows.

That is in the ballpark. If you look at the Precision Trolling Big Water Edition it will have the dive curve. I run at 1.6 to 1.7 to get it down to 15 with 3 colors.

Lead core is very speed dependent, actually this is the beauty of it. It will cover a lot of the vertical water column because when you turn, inside line will slow down and the lead core will sink along with the oppisite on the other side, it speeds up and rises. it also undelates up and down to cover alot of depth. One great way to use it is what we here on the Great Lakes call a SWR (secret weapon rig ) 2 colors of lead core run off the downriggers with a long leader, 20 to 50 ft., run the rigger 10 ft or so, off bottom and the the business end will run about 10 ft down from there, now your as close to bottom as you want and way back. This is a killer presentation for when the fish are sulking on the bottom, because you are sure of the depth and can be sure your right in there face, but along way from the boat. If your pulling meat with this and running slow you will need to rise the rigger up a little.
Good luck
