I have the opportunity to purchase a new out of the box 2005 FICHT RAM 135. The dealer says the 3 year warranty will still be in place. He indicates to meet that he will sell me the motor and install for $7,000 - he says this is his cost and he will not make any money off of it but since it is a 2005 and older technology he cannot move the price up.
I have read that post-1999 FICHT are good motors. Any specific opinions about the 135?

The FICHT name is pretty toxic for resale values, no matter if it was from the good period. Unless it's an outstanding deal, and you're going to keep the boat a long time it might not be the best choice. How much would a used 135-150 Opti be instead?

I think that by 2005, Evinrude models were called E-TEC. That ram ficht must be older than that. I would check with BRP Evinrude to confirm any warranty.

Both E-TEC and Direct Injected motors were produced in 2005.
The 135 is a strong performer and runs almost the same speeds as the 150 bigger brother.
I had an 03' 135 and it was a very strong motor. Same V6 block as the 150. This FICHT is a bad reputation is really getting old. The early OMC motors of the late 90's were the culprit. When Bombardier took over, it got fixed. End of story. Opti's had their problem children too. I am on my 4th Evinrude and have never had a single problem yet!!!!
