i have a 2025 with 250 verado. it is rigged fairly heavily...kicker, vantage, maxxum pro, 5 bats, tourney gear, etc. i figure the boat to weigh in around 4000lbs with everything listed above plus fuel and two of us in it.
it came with a 21 tempest which performs poorly, 5700 rpm and 52mph...generally. i tried a buddies 21 high five and get 6000 rpm and 54mph. i would like to try a 19 rev4 but not sure if will get the rpms up there around 6000-6100 were i would like to see them. my second options is a 19 tempest. the 21 high five does perform far better than the 21 tempest for lower on plane speed, fuel economy and running more level when searching with graph at around 10-15 mph.
just curious what some of you think or would suggest. i really dont have any prop shop boat dealer close that would be able to allow for prop trading/trials. for all i know right now the high five mite be the best prop for my setup, just not sure if will be able to get 6000-6100 out of a 19 rev4.
thanks for any input
I've got a similar setup, exception is 275 Verado. I'm running a 21 Enertia.
I have noticed my performance has dropped in the warm weather, and it was glass calm as well. I anticipate the 21 Tempest would be the prop for me to try, if I wanted to try another.
I can check with a couple of my friends running 250 Vrods, it may be a 19 pitch, but I'd still consider the Tempest. Also, keep in mind, hot humid, and calm conditions are going to hurt your numbers. I'm still getting 5900, but it's about 55. I expect my numbers will be back when it cools down after our 3 days of summer this year.

A 19p will help but that 250hp should be able to push a 21p tempest. At what height is your motor mounted on the transom?

That is sort of odd.
The majority of 2025s w/ 250Verados on the water are running 21 Tempest and they hit 6000+...with similar loads to yours.
I had one myself w/250.
Yes... at lower speeds the High 5 will be better...no question.

Hey on your smartcraft guage for your verado what is yuor maximum trim you can achieve.Mine is 2.7-2.9.You still need to get that rpm at least 6200 your max is 6400.If you cant trim the motor up enough you might have to relearn the angle on your smartcraft system.

with the tempest max trim was 5.4, 5.2 was best, it would start to shoot a rooster tail and slip at 5.4. with this high five i can trim to 5.9(maybe more but quit) it started to slip and kick up a rooster tail. thought it was odd that it got more trim with high five...i swear i aint dreaming that the tempest stops at 5.4 with tempest, cuz i couldnt believe that i couldnt trim till i had a big ol rooster tail going.
it does seem odd that i cant get 6k out that 21 tempest if others are:confused:. other than i think corvette744 told me that has 19 tempest he has used on his. as far as engine height it is mounted in the standard 2nd from top hole. i know if i go to rev4 i would like to raise it one if not two holes. the tempest prop i have has some dings across all the blades...nothing major but deffinetly not smooth, i have them filled down as smooth as can get.
the engine seems to run fine....i dont think anything is wrong with it. guess i could always have a compresion test done but that was ok last fall when i bought it.

after letting my buddy try my 21 tempest i am not so sure that there isnt more wrong with that prop than i suspected. it performed poorly for him as well, losing 3 mph off top end. he also noticed a vibration that doesnt have with his high five. i am also wondering how much elevation effects me and not being able to turn the 21 tempest to 6000+rpm. i live at basically 3230'. i was talking with cpl guys at work and they said that their boats run alot better when they have been within cpl hundred feet of sea level...like 300 rpm better supposivily.
any thoughts?

It isn't the elevation.
The Verado supercharger negates that.
I'm at 3800 at my "home" lake.

is it the supercharger or the fuel injection? i suppose only carbed engines are effected by altitude than...but yet ambient temp and humidity effects performance? just curious since others have commented on all the above affects.
