I'm sure that this question has been asked before but here goes.Going out of Morson Ontario what chip is better and why?
I'm responding just to get you back up. I had the same deilema and am leaving in the morning. I bought the Lakemaster because I was sure my older gps would run it. Navionics seem to be kind of hit and miss on the older units. If all the upgrades were in place I think it may have worked. The Lakemaster people are top notch and always available for advise. I'll stick with them. Good luck.

I was up in Lake of The Woods in June and had both chips. I would say the rule would be if you are going south of Sioux Narrows, Lakemaster is the ticket. If you are going north of Sioux Narrows, go with Navionics.

Crazy Cooter,
I have used both on Rainy & LOW.
To me, there are more details on the Lakemaster chip at this time, especially in the Morson area.
Good Luck,

Make sure you are comparing the latest mapping chips (2009 versions) because these mapping companies are constantly updating their products. A good retailer like Scheels will let you put the charts in one of their chart plotters on display, power it up and then you can look at the areas that you actually fish and compare the charts.
I like and use Navionics charts.

You really need to look at the Navionic/Hot Maps North MN/LOW chip. Many parts of LOW have zero detail. Look at them before you buy.

If you're asking if it will show every rock, reef or hazard you can hit, then no it is absolutely not safe to navigate with that chip, or any other. LakeMaster has a LOTW map card and added a whole bunch of area on LOTW to it (the newer Nav cards have more LOTW than yours as well I believe). It really depends where in Ontario you're going as to whether or not that area of the lake is mapped. We sell both cards, generally I prefer LM for LOTW. Hope that helps.

if your going out of the Morson area your best choice is the Lakemaster chip.....Navionics is just not there yet as far as details.

I keep my boat at Gill's Morson Marina and have been all over the lake since 1970. For several years I kept my boat at NW Angle and then at Kenora. Before GPS, the 1st 26 years, in either canoe or boat, I was lost at least once each year except 3. I have Navionics SD Classic card, Lakemaster Woods/Rainy cards in Lowrance LCX 15 MT units and Jeppson/C-Map Lake of the Woods card in a Magellan NAV 6000 Gps. Lakemaster has great detail from Morson to a little north of Falcon Island. Navionics has good information all the way to Kenora. C-Map has detail to get you anywhere but wont fit Lowrance. I live in Iowa. NESSMUK

Crazy Cooter,
What plotter(s) are you using. I can help you find out what are is covered as I work for Navionics. If you have any lat-long of where you are goign to be, let me know and I'll check out the details. Most of the retailers have charts they can put in to let you see. Who is your fav retailer...I'll check and make sure they have a Navionics chart you can review.
