I am supposed to pick-up my new boat Tues. I have ordered two X-15s(one for the bow w/minnkota built-in trans 200mhz--and a dual freq. trans for the console. My question is do I need the dual transducer for the console or would I be just as well off with a 20 degree skimmer. The dual is 50 mhz 37 degree and 200mhz 12 degree. I had thought that I would be able to use the 12 degree at the same time as the bow mount, but they are both 200 mhz and I can't use them both at the same time and I also wonder If 12 degree will give me the coverage I need anyway. I also wonder if the 37 degree is worth anything at all!!! HEEELLLLLPPP!!!

I just bought a LCX 15MT and had the same question. After speaking with Lowrance and Clint at Three Rivers Marine I went with the 200 MHZ
20 Deg. transducer. Unless you are useing it in Saltwater and in depths over 300 feet the 50 MHZ will not be of much use. The 50 MHZ will will give you a larger cone area and more power but you will lose the definition that the 200 MHZ 20 Deg. offers. If you want to see thoes bottom huggers and suspended bait fish go with the 200 MHS
20 Deg.

Is the 12 degree just too small an area to be worthwhile?

I have the dual frequency unit and I don't agree with the saltwater statement. I fish lake Michigan for salmon and can't mark my downrigger balls consistently in water over 50' deep with the 200 kHz portion of my transducer. They are 12# balls and the transducer and rigger are offset by less than a foot on the transom.
With the 50 kHz setting I can watch fish charge the ball/bait, pretty neat. Pick your transducer depending upon what fishing your doing, if you are going to fish the great lakes exclusively, go with the dual frequency transducer. If not, make a judgement call.
