When you measure arrow length, do you include the nock or is it just the arrow shaft? I know, dumb question, but I just started bow hunting three years ago and still learning.

Thanks

Measure from the nock seat (the detent on the nock where the string will rest) to the end of the insert. This will be the "cut length" of your arrow which will vary greatly from person to person and is cut different depending on which type of arrow rest you set your bow up with. Your local pro shop (if you have one near) can be a great help in learning the basics and getting your equipment set up right the first time.

The best way I have found and was taught by a pro Tech. is to come to full draw with your new arrow, make sure your form is correct and you are actually at full draw. Have somebody mark your (1)arrow from the side with WHITE OUT approximately 1/2' - 1" in front of your shelf or in front of your rest if shooting overdraw. Then set your saw with the nocks left in and cut all your arrows that length. Doing it this way eliminates any mistakes!!! Nothing like cutting a dozen arrows at a $100+ to find out you are a quarter inch short and your broadheads are getting kicked off by your riser. Remember when sawing carbons on high RPM arrow cutters to immediately dip them in cold water after cutting to cool them. Carbon arrows do not like heat. This will help from splitting or compressing at the insert. Pull a dry clean rag piece through the inside of the carbon arrows to remove any carbon dust. This will help with your arrow trueness, balance and stabilizing in flight when it leaves your bow. RDJ is correct on actual measurement and also stay close with your pro-shop. Most important thing is to make sure your arrow size is compatible to your poundage you are shooting. Underspined arrows can explode leaving your shelf and cause severe injury................Good shooting, Paul
