Here is a custom bait casting rod I built for a buddy. It is a 7' Medium fast. I put micro guides on this rod. I just epoxied it last night and should be ready to go in a couple days. The picture is just of the thread work I did. I will post some more pics tomorrow. Let me know what you think.

Thanks guys.

Mike

Looks wonderful! I custom built a couple of rods back in the late 80's. I might have to try it again. Your pattern and thread work looks great!

Looks great! When you build your own rods do you save money? If so, what percentage do you save?

It depends on what kind of fishing pole you are making. You are never going to be cheaper than the Wal-mart shelf pole. But then again you get what you pay for. If done right you can build a high end quality pole cheaper. When I say high end I am of course talking about St. Croix SCV, G Loomis, Rainshadow, and Castaway rods. And you get to make it prettier and customize it to your needs and habits.

But, then there is the question as to wether or not you can do it. It is pretty simple. If you would like some pointers let me know. I can point you in the right direction.

I was going to ask what blank you used. It looks good, especially the thread work. Very nice

This blank is a Castaway XP3 842. It is a medium light, fast action blank. Castaway is a new company that hit the market about 2 or 3 years ago. They make awesome blanks for about half the price as some competetors. I got this blank through one of there vendors by the name of Swampland tackle. Both have websites. I'll post some more pics this evening.

I forgot to mention that the guides used on this blank are not fly rod guides. LOL They are actually micro guides.
