I heard from a fellow Sea Grant agent that Fred Snyder is retiring this year. I posted on the Sea Grant web site congratulating him and hope other will do the same. The link is below.

I also raised the question whether his position will be filled once he's gone. I am very concerned that the common policy of "attrition by retirement" will be applied here. For this year, Sea Grant received full funding but there was the very distinct prospect of major cuts to Sea Grant in budget talks. I think it's very important that OSU and the legislators in Columbus understand how important we fishermen think the work Fred and his Sea Grant cohorts have done for Lake Erie and press for it to continue.

Good luck and enjoy your retirement Fred!

i echo your sentiments about fred's work. all that i have seen has been spot on and not open to serious debate. if there's a person in the ranks that can come close to continuing fred's work he needs to be promoted and quickly. the lake erie portion that's ohio water and the tributaries, not to mention the large inland lakes, all need to be managed properly. that management style needs to have continuity and be uninterupted.

hoping you can relax and enjoy a well deserved retirement Mr. Snyder. and thanks for all your great work.
