I've been reading up on snap weights in the precision trolling 5th edition book. The depth curve is shown for 10# mono and I was wondering how much of an effect using 10# (4# diameter) fireline would have on the depth curve. I know the smaller diameter of the fireline gets cranks down an additional 25 to 30 percent over mono without the help of snap weights; does this additional depth apply to cranks behind snap weights also (using 50/50 method at normal speeds).

The 50/50 method is for shallow diiving cranks and spinners. You can get a good estimate of how far your bait will e down by looking at the depth at 50 feet. Then add that to the sanp weight depth. That should get you close to the depth the bait will be running.

Good luck,

The depth curve on page 35 of the P.T. guide shows the shallow cranks or spinners running depth 50' behind the snap weight on 10# mono. What I'm trying to figure out is how much deeper percentage wise your shallow cranks or spinners and snap weights run using 10# fireline (I'm guessing your snap weights must run deeper as cranks do with fireline). The method you suggest Scott sounds good, but the only problem is the depth chart on page 35 is for the "shallow cranks or spinners behind the snap weights," not the running depth of the snap weights themselves. If I'm way off base with this question let me know, thanks - Greg.
