I have a 2003 Merc 90hp four stroke and the trim gauge on the dash is not currently working. I have traced the wire back to the engine and found a loose wire in the harness that connects to the gauge, but can not locate the actual connection point for this wire. Does anyone have a diagram they can provide or know of where the trim sensor is actually located...
Thanks..

I think most Merc's I've seen has the trim sensor mounted on the end of the motor pivot point or on the end of the hydraulic tilt ram pivot. Should be able to follow the wires up into the housing.

HRG knows where to find this info. Maybe he will see this if I put in a cool title. How's this? :howdy:

Honestly, I'm out of my league here, but here's what I kinda know, thanks to my mid-2000's Optimax service manual. On the back of the gauge, you should have (3) connections. Black (ground), purple (switched 12V), and a brown/white wire. This brown/white wire is the one that runs back to the sensor in the clamp bracket/midsection area. Find that color wire, and it should lead you back to the sensor. But, you may want to also verify that you have 12volts when the key is turned-on at the back of the gauge.

Yes, that is the wire that I was looking at (brown with white strip). It runs to the motor and it is disconnected at that point and I can not find a connection point that would lead back to the sensor for the tilt.

After further research, the Trim sensor is a #821400A2 which is located on the starboard side of the engine... Seems Mercury didn't install these at the factory on this motor size.. Runs about $37. But still looking for anyone with a picture or a schematic on where the mounting location will be under the cover..
