View Full Version : which St. Croix
I am preparing (convincing the wife that I need another rod) to buy a spinning rod for rigging, and haven't decided between the St. Croix Aavid or the Premier. Money isn't a huge issue, but in your opinions, is the Aavid twice the rod that the Premier is? I appologize if this is a repeat post.

Avid AS66MLF
4-10# line
1/8-1/2 oz lure
3.8 oz rod weight
SC III Graphite with SiC guides
Lifetime warranty (limited)
SRP = $180
Premier PS66MLF
4-10# line
1/8-1/2 oz lure
4.3 oz rod weight
SC II Graphite with Hialoy guides
2 year warranty
SRP = $80
I tried both and bought the PS66MLF. I did not notice enough of a difference to warrant the price. I rigged these with Fireline which added the right amount of sensitivity. Plus, I was able to get 2 Premiers for the price of one Avid. There is nothing wrong with the avid, I was looking for the best bang for buck and that is what I choose. No regrets.
These are mated with Shimano Spirex 2000RB reels.

Error on the Avid price. SRP = $150 not $180

Thank you very much Aguaman - once again you have the info i needed. Now, for the hard part, how best do you convince the wife on the necessity to have more rods to not catch fish with??

Can't speak for how the Avid fishes but I handled both in store last week and bought the Premier, fished it Sunday, nice rod.

I'm not married, but if my ever-to-be-wife told me I couldn't buy a fishing rod, I would have to question our compatability.
As the Rock would say..."Know your role, and shut your mouth!"
I hope my live-in girlfriend doesn't see this, she will beat my ***.
P.S. She still doesn't know I bought a FigRig rod.

If money is no object try the Legend series. You can definately tell the difference between the Legend and the other two series. If the Legend is too pricey then go with the Avid series. Lighter in weigth and more sensitivity and the warrantee. By the way, you can't go wrong with the St. Croix name.
I have three Legends - 1 older legend and 2 of the new SCV. The new Legends are awsome. Light, Super Sensitive and all the power you need to muscle in the big ones.
