The general concensus is that the 2001 and newer models were solid. That said just the mention of the Ficht name will scare most folks off so the resale value will be little to nothing. If you plan to "run it 'til it dies" you're probably safe, but when you're negotiating price understand there will likely be little to no value for the outboard if you decide to re-sell (so price accordingly).

also use this info to your advantage when you are buying it. If you get it for a great price, then its a wash

The 2002 and newer Evinrudes were made by Bombardier who brought the company back to life after the OMC bankruptcy. Bombardier greatly improved the motors and they have a good reliability reputation compared to the former OMC built FICHTS of 2001 and older.

Just make sure it was made by Bombardier, not an earlier OMC motor that was sold as new in 2002.

If it's a 2002 motor, it may treat you well. But just like Smitty said, just the name 'Ficht' will make it next to worthless on the resale market. Some had good experiences with the ficht, but on the resale market, it's worth very little regardless.

I have owned a 2002 ficht for 7 years. The only thing I have had to do is replace plugs twice a year to keep it running smooth. Find a good price for plugs and a big discount for taking the ficht off thier hands. Bad rep but its been good for me. Good luck
