I've narrowed my search down to the following:
07 Ranger 621 with a Merc. Racing 300Pro XS Opti
08 Trition 215 with a Merc. 300 Verado
Unfortunately I haven't had the oppourtunity to test either boat yet due to time and distance constraints.
My thoughts are that the Ranger would be fast and reponsive with the equipped motor while the Triton would handle big water better and have a higher top end speed. I realize that propping will make a big difference, but I'm mainly looking for general opinions.
Thanks in advance,
Boomer

Both boats are going to be awesome no doubt about it. I would check to see what kind of warranty's are left on the motors and even the boats. I know Ranger's are 3 year, the 300 is an XS not Pro XS, the XS is built the race division over at Merc and doesn't offer the 5 year like most guy are getting on the Pro XS's (like me on my 250 pro xs) the V-Rod not sure what they offer but would look into it. As far as I know the Verado is going to be thirsty over the XS both 300's will perform great on either hull, Not sure what the 300's will pull on either hull but you will be happy either way. If I had to make the decison it really would boil down to warranty, electronics, colors, options with boat, PRICE and what have you always wanted to own a Ranger or a Triton ( I don't know your former boat ownership history) they are both nice and you WILL be happy with either. The cover on the Rangers are sweet if you didn't know that's always a bonus and there livewell systems are superior if you fish tourney's.
Just a few thoughts.
Have fun and enjoy and let us know how it goes with whatever you end up with.

The 300xs has a one year warrenty, the verado most likely has a five year. And besides it`s on a TRITON!! you can`t do any better than that. Wiredog

I've heard nothing but great things about the Verados! You really cant go wrong with either setup, but I agree you should go with the better warrantied Verado. And the 215 ride is supposed to be phenomenal in big water!

Both are clearly top of the line rigs. XS= lighter, faster acceleration, more fuel efficient, much louder, 2 stroke smoke. Verado= heavier, Uses more fuel, has power steering, very quiet (and pleasing at upper throttle), no smoke, got to change he oil.
I love my 300 Verado- if nothing else, because it's virtually silent at idle and just off idle, & has a VERY cool- quiet- well tuned-pleasing sound at speed... it's Dreamy! And yes, If I had a second chance I would buy Verado again.
A couple more things- I really don't know if the 120 lb or so difference in weight all-in-all really matters much- both boats are fairly good sized... It is no issue to me having the heavier 300V on my 215X. I will say this- You MUST test drive both rigs- it IS the only way you will really know what you are getting. Every individual boat runs differently and every individual boat-motor-& trailer has it's flaws & goofs. Do yourself a huge favor- take the time & expense to travel and test drive both rigs.
Best of luck to you & have Fun!- Charlie

Once you get in a boat that is armed with a verado all the other engines out there seem obsolete....I love my v rod. I am only running a 175 but its totally diff than any other outboard out there...Either way, both awesome boats and engines...Me personally I would go with the 215 and the vrod:laugh:...
