I'm thinking of bumping my F150 up a hole or two on the transom, just wondering if I can use a block of wood and a floor jack on the bottom of the skeg?

Worked fine for the 75hp I had, but this is a much bigger and heavier motor.

Just out of curiousity what boat do have and how far above the keel of the boat are you going to go,I want to do this with my F225 on a Alumacraft trophy 200 but not sure of the limitations, right now I am 1/2" above the keel.

Any suggestions?

I have a 185 Alumacraft Trophy Sport and the motor right now can be raised 2 more holes, the cavation plate is about 2" below the keel, after talking to DAH props they recommended that the plate be even with the keel as a good place to go from, then they can better get another prop for me with the data from having it there.

Might want to give them a call, pretty sharp guys, father son operation I think??

Allen, here in the Chicago area I used to rent an engine hoist (aka cherry picker) for less than $30/4 hours. Looking at the parts diagram, it appears as though your F150 has (2) hanger lift points, so I'd rent a hoist with a spreader bar and use that. Hate to see you do any damage to the skeg, this way you can take your time, re-seal the bolts, not get anybody hurt.

On my 90hp I tilted the motor all the way up and put a block of wood under the motor mount. Just be carefull not to pinch the line for the tilt trim or whatever else is down there on your motor. An extra set of hands helps steady everything also.

Let us know how much it costs to get it fixed after it hits the floor!! Wiredog

I've done my F150 twice without a hoist.
Let the trailer tongue all the way down. Let the motor all the way down. Raised the tongue until the skeg is resting wood blocks. Took the top bolts out. Remove the lock nut, loosen the other nuts enough to slide (slotted holes). Have someone raise the tongue to raise the motor. Lower the tongue to lower the motor. You steady the motor and watch to align the top hole in the location you want. It was easy even with a 475 lb motor.

I've done the same w/3 motors myself. Except I also blocked up under the motor mount. Works extremely well. Junky..............
