I am wondering which are the best and how are they used?
A planner board is a device that takes your lure out to the side of the boat while trolling. The best is a matter of opinion` but most opinions here on walleye central is Off-Shores are best.
To use them you put the lure in the water and drop it back as far as you want. Then you attach the in-line planner board and let it back as far as you want. Then you engage the reel and the forward movment of the boat, makes the board pull out to the side of the boat.
Hope this helps, and good luck.

Another vote for the Off Shore boards. In my opinion they track the truest and are the easiest to use.

Pick up a copy of the new Off Shore paper. It goes over different ways to use the board as well as the other Off Shore products.
You can pick it up free at stores that carry the products and sport shows.
Feel free to email me with any specific questions.

Off Shore boards are used mostly in the Western Basin to Lorain, OH. When you get farther east the water gets deeper and they go to the #1 Dipsey and/or downriggers.
See you on the water.

appears most like OFF-SHORE, however i have used yellow birds with good success for the last 2 years. they are less expensive and track fine. use them on lake michigan for salmon and steelhead as well, again - work great.
on erie run yellow birds with 20 jets and crawler harnesses in the west end, most days they'll outproduce most spoons and stick baits

Last year on WC someone mentioned an article by Chip Porter which is posted on the Yellow Bird (a brand of in-line planers) web site. The article is great, quite thorough, and will give you a lot of help. I use Offshore boards, not Yellow Birds, but the info is mostly transferrable. I don't recall the exact address but a search should turn it up. You could also check the WC archives and click on the hyperlink. Good luck.
