1998 merc 115

on a 98 merc 115 should you hear the warning sound when you turn the key on, or only hear the warning sound when there is an over heated condition or low oil ?
I thought the warning sound sounded when the key was turned on before the motor started as like a test to show it is working. Maybe I am wrong.

I have a 1998 Mercury 115 hp motor, I have had it since it was new. It has never made any warning sounds when it starts.

I meant a warning sound as soon as you turn the key on befor the motor starts.

I checked with a couple guys at the launch ramp and theirs doe not beep either when the key is turned on befor starting the motor.

I just talked to Paul at bow & stern marine and he said some did beep and some didn't peep when the key was turned to the on position. Mercury had set them up both ways.
